Brief Overview Of The Questions
The IRA also known as the "The Irish Republican Army" received it's famous name from the glorious voluntary soldiers who fought for a united Ireland after Southern and Northern Ireland divided in 1921. Later on, the IRA changed its name due to the overruling by the Protestants over the Roman Catholic in Northern Ireland which triggered a new name to the Irish Group "Provisional IRA".
However, the main leader behind this organisation was led by Gerry Adams. Adams has led Sinn Fein(an Irish political party) in order to support the Republic in Northern Ireland. He now takes an alternative parliamentary way which may lead to the disappearance of the IRA.
First thing's First. Who Are The Irish Republican Army?
A nationalist and republican parliamentary organisation composed of voluntary Irish people integrated to create one of the most infamous terrorist groups- The IRA which stands for the "Irish Republican Army." Formed in 1919, the purpose of this terrorism group was to oppose British occupation in Ireland and to also attain Republic independence. The IRA links back to the 1600's to the 1700's as England had full conquest over Ireland as the protestant settlers from Britain had also colonised them. An extensive animosity between the Roman Catholic and the Protestants existed which ignited the feud between the 2 countries. The IRA also has a long history extending all the way back in 1919, where the Irish rebelled against the British empire's expansion onto Ireland. The Irish knew that the British were in the middle of WW1 and decided to simply attack them making the British vulnerable from 2 areas.
There are 2 reasons to behind why I chose to study and explore the IRA as my terrorism group; personal interest and its distinctiveness. Irish culture and traditions has fascinated me from when I was in primary. It's holidays and festivals has always been a favourite of mine such as St Patrick's Day and its traditional celebrations. It is distinctive to an extent as the tactics in which they used were different as the IRA preferred acts of assassination as opposed to direct attacks and combats throughout the use of weapons on the battlefield.
